T’ai Chi & Qigong
These Chinese Health Arts are for all ages and abilities and work on strength, rooting, flexibility and suppleness.
Their origins are Chinese and are based on traditional Chinese Medicine and a Chinese philosophy and approach of the whole person.
They work on the ancient Chinese idea of Qi (pronounced “chee”) or energy, being the foundationand build blocks of everything. They encourage a good flow of Qi throughout the whole body which is considered excellent for good health and well being.
Sometimes they are described as moving meditation or mindfulness in motion.
Elements of self care are part of the fabric of these classes and each week exercises and sequences are practised and learned that can be used oneself.
The Chinese character for Qi or Chi has several meanings.
It can mean “air” or “breath” but it is most commonly used to represent the concept of “energy” or “vital essence”.
Carol Wrigley has been studying Chinese Health Arts since 1986. She loves her work and encourages her classes to gain the benefits from these ancient exercises.
